Kermode (spirit) bear
Ursus americanus kermodei
Found in isolated regions of western Canada
Why I made this image
The first thing I noticed was the light. Beautiful, direct, beguiling. Then I saw the harmony. Rarely seen apparitions of Canada’s great forests, Spirit bears, also known as Kermode bears, are a genetic variant of the American black bear, the result of a regressive gene. Both parent black bears must have this recessive gene for a white-furred cub to be born. From black emerges white. From shadows emerges light.
