Restful Mare

Image detail

Camargue horse
Equus ferus caballus
Indigenous to the Camargue area in southern France.

Why I made this image

The wild horses of the Camargue are known for their power, witnessed during their gallops across the salt marshes of the Rhone Delta. Simultaneously, they project a calm energy and beguiling softness. The relationship I built with this mare, which was founded on trust and sensitivity, helped me overcome a long-held fear I had of horses. She showed me how fear was restricting me, not just in my interactions with horses but, strangely, in my photography too. Fear is creativity’s greatest adversary. Overcome it and we open the door to achieving our furthest-reaching dreams.
