Endemic to the island of Sumatra in Indonesia.
When confronted by poachers, a mother orang-utan will lift her baby into the furthest reaches of a tall tree. Leaving the baby, she will then draw the poachers away, through the dense forest, putting her own life at risk. If successful, she will return to reclaim her baby, gently lifting it from its hiding place and drawing it close in a soothing embrace.
